On 28 August, our Operations Manager, Liz Kaloudau, had the opportunity to attend a Treaty of Waitangi workshop hosted by local legend Darren Rewi. This workshop was a valuable experience that emphasised the importance of understanding Māori culture and history in our work.
The Treaty of Waitangi is a foundational document in New Zealand, representing a commitment between the Crown and Māori peoples. Understanding its principles is crucial for fostering respectful and meaningful relationships with Māori communities.
As our organisation strives to create an inclusive and multicultural environment, having this knowledge informs our practices and enhances our community engagement efforts.
Liz's attendance at this workshop provided insights into the historical context of the Treaty and its ongoing significance in contemporary society. It underscored the need for organisations like ours to recognise and respect the values, perspectives, and rights of Māori people. This understanding is essential not only for professional development but also for promoting a more equitable and harmonious community.
We are committed to integrating this knowledge into our work, ensuring that we honour and respect the rich cultural heritage of Māori as we engage with the diverse communities within Queenstown.
